News: Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam, saved from closure

In recent days the Tropenmuseum (Museum of the Tropics) in Amsterdam, one of Europe’s leading ethnographic museums, whose rich permanent collection reflects Dutch colonial history, has come under threat of closure due to budget cuts on the part of the Dutch government.

Thanks to a 40,000 strong petition, the museum has been saved from this immediate threat, and funding has now been ensured until 2017, but this comes with significant organisational changes and long-term financial cuts.

Read more about the changes here, or sign the petition (until June 30th) here.
