Event date: 30th August 2013, 7 – 10:30pm
If you’re at a loss for something to do tomorrow night and are not too far from Oxford then you might want to take a peek at the Ashmolean’s LiveFriday event. The OATG is participating in this month’s LiveFriday which is on the theme of fashion, to tie in with Oxford Fashion Week. We are collaborating with the Eastern Art department at the museum and will be showing some pieces from the stored collections in the Jameel Study Centre. The garments are made with Asian textiles but for a western market, or in a western style. We will also have materials available for visitors to get inspired and create their own fashion designs with a range of swatches of Asian fabrics to base the sketches on.
This is just one small part of a much bigger event, as you can see on the Ashmolean’s website. Ashmolean textile conservator Sue Stanton will be giving a talk in the Textiles Gallery on ‘The Ultimate in Fashion and Luxury – The Kashmir Shawl in the Nineteenth Century’; Textiles for All are bringing their multicultural peace tent; and there will be lots of activities and talks based on fair trade ethics, a catwalk show, live music, and much more.
