9,000 year old linen from Turkey

Recent excavations in the Central Anatolian province of Konya have revealed a 9,000 year old piece of woven linen fabric, found in the ground of a burned-down house. This is the oldest piece of linen ever found, and it is in remarkably good condition. Archaeologists think this is due to the fire that burned the house down creating a kiln-drying effect, which effectively preserved the fabric.
