Event date: Wednesday 4 March 2015, 6.15pm
Faye Belsey, Assistant Curator at the Pitt Rivers Museum, will give a brief introduction to two significant collections of Miao textiles from the Guizhou Province of Southwest China acquired by the museum in recent years. Using vibrant images of a selection of textiles from both collections, including exquisitely embroidered baby carriers and elaborate festival costume, she will explore the variety of embroidery techniques used by the Miao and illustrate the importance of visual expression through costume.
The talk will begin at 6.15 pm in the Education Department of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, and it will be followed by a drinks reception. Access is by the St Giles entrance of the Museum from 6–8.30pm.
Entry is free for OATG members, and £3 for non-members. No booking is required – just turn up.
